Envisioning HBO for the Living Room

Creating the pitch film that brought HUGE’s proposed HBO TV app design to life.

Company: HUGE

Client: HBO

Role: Motion Designer

Year: 2012

Expertise: Interaction Design • Motion Design • TV Interfaces

Context

HUGE developed a new design direction for the HBO TV app and created a film to present the vision to HBO.

Working from static visual comps provided by the team, I designed all UX motion for the film and developed interaction behaviors for navigating content, revealing information, and moving between interface states.

Challenge

The challenge was to demonstrate how the app could feel when navigating content on a television screen, turning static designs into a fluid, cinematic product vision while making browsing, selection, and content transitions feel clear and responsive.

Content Discovery

I developed animated focus treatments that clarified which content was active as users navigated the interface.

Motion transitions connected navigation, selection, and content detail views, showcasing a complete user flow.

Browsing

I designed motion behaviors that helped users move through HBO’s content library while maintaining context between browsing states.

These behaviors helped the television experience feel responsive and intuitive.

Pitch Film

The complete film brought the UX motion, interaction behaviors, audio, and video transitions together into a single vision for the proposed HBO television experience.

Impact

Interaction behaviors, animation, audio, and video came together to present the proposed experience as a cinematic and intuitive way to discover and navigate HBO content from the comfort of the living room.
